Books 2016: Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters

Since I enjoyed the first Percy Jackson quite a bit I decided to carry on with the series. After tracking down the second book (for some reason this series is really hard to search for on our library page) I checked it out and read it.

This book starts out a school year after the first one ends. Percy soon finds out that his safe haven of Half-blood Camp isn't so safe anymore and that everything has been turned upside down. He and a couple of friends decide to take off (breaking the rules) and save his friend Grover and the camp. Many adventure ensure, including meeting a hydra, being trapped aboard a zombie ship (not real zombie's just hypnotized folks), and a Confederate ghost ship. Once again Riordan has mixed old myth with new places, things, and situations. I do appreciate sequels because they tend to spend less time establishing the universe and more time story telling. As you can probably tell from the cover they end up in the Sea of Monsters and have an encounter with Polyphemus the famous Cyclops. This bit was fun, especially when they utilize "Nobody" to make him crazy-mad.

Again it was a fun and fast read and I'll be looking up the third book today.
