Books 2016: Percy Jackson and the Lightening Theif
The book club book for April is Percy Jackon and the Olympians: The Lightening Theif by Rick Riordan. This is the first book in a series and is either a middle-reader or teen novel.

The book begins with a 12 year old boy, Percy Jackson, his odd best friend, Grover, and a boarding school for troubled youth. You soon find out that trouble seems to follow Percy, as if it is attracted to him, and that there is indeed something different about him. He shortly finds himself as Camp Halfblood, where he learns that the Olympian gods are not only real but that he is the son of one of them. The rest of the story centers around his journey as he discovers who is father is and a little something about Olympian politics.
All in all this is a pretty good read. Although, geered towards a much young audiance there is enough real mythology and movement to keep me interested, in fact I've picked up the second book in the series from the library and I'm currently reading that. I really think the Riordan has taken the time to consider the world the old myths built and found a way to integrate them into our modern culture. I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to finding out if the rest of the series holds my interest the same way.
