Tom Starts his Final Semester at SLCC
Yesterday marked the beginning of Tom's last semester at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). It has been a long ride to this point. Some of that was our own doing (like giving Tom a few semesters to get remedial classes in at a slow pace) and others were due to some terrible counseling. Tom went in to see a counselor at the beginning of every year. I guess the turn-over in community college counselors is pretty high because he never saw the same one twice because they had always left before the next school year started. Due to all the varying opinions Tom has had 3 or 4 majors and completed enough credits to have a Bachelor's degree....Like I said, TERRIBLE counseling. The good news is that he will be done with his associates (both education and general studies) at the end of this semester. He only has 2 classes to complete this semester and one of them is the first "Teaching Elementary Math" classes. Today he got up and started on his homework, because at this point in his mathing career he has been well trained that it will take hours-days to complete an assignment and had a great laugh when he realized how basic elementary math is. He completed his assignment due tomorrow and the one due next Monday this afternoon in a fit of productivity. The other class is a fine arts general education requirement he has to fill and I believe it is Culture & Jewelry Making or something like that. He hasn't had that class yet this week so I have no idea what that is really going to be like. This "extra" time that he has (you know from not having 900 hours of math homework a week plus 3 or 4 other classes) left him with time to work on his entrance exams for his program of choice of USU. So tonight he is up at USU-Salt Lake and taking the first of 4 seminars to prepare for the Praxis exam. Gotta love a new year.
