Salt Lake Comic Con FanX 2015 (the very late update)
So this is months late (about 2) because this semester has taken a lot of me. Tom's schedule keeps me up a little too late for when I need to get up in the mornings and I just have a hard time motivating for more than the clean house, calling, exercise stuff.
This event was about the same size as the very first Comic Con (2013) as far as the floor space provided on the convention floor. The panels were spaced out in a way to allow for less traffic jams and the ability to get from one to another. I had a lot of down time because of the additional time between panels and covered the entire floor Thursday night. This meant that I had a lot of down time between panels on Friday where I just sat and read because I'd see all I wanted to see.
I spent most of my panel time this time around visiting the smaller group panels about topics and movies rather than celebrity panels. There were a few celebrity panels that I wanted to see Thursday and Friday but there were so early in the day that I didn't get a chance because I didn't have the days off and I was just heading down after work.
I particularly enjoyed the panels I attended about Harry Potter: What Happens Next, Creating Magic: How do you define magic in your own worlds; and some other along those lines.
Saturday Tom was able to come with me. This year we had a new bracelet system with RFID chips so they could keep track of how many people were on the floor (fire marshall loved this) and keep track of how many people were in the really large panels. So, Tom and I got there early Saturday to get in line for the Billie Piper panel. This year we got to wait inside, which was a real improvement over past years.
Waiting in line.
Billie's panel was pretty good. She was a little out of it, apparently she went on a bit of a binder the night before and was still trying to recover when the panel started. But there were some good stories and since we were in the panel room we were already there fore the Carrie Fisher panel that came next.
We finished our day with the one celebrity photo-op that we purchased. I had wanted to attend Nichelle's panel, but it was in the middle of the day Thursday and I didn't get to make it. But she was an absolute doll to meet during the photo op. Since she is a bit older and the line a bit smaller this photo-op moved a little slower than the other ones I've done and we actually got to talk to her a little. Tom thought she was really cute, especially after she called him "handsome".
It was a fun little weekend and I'm looking forward to Comic Con in September. They intentionally made FanX a little smaller so they could test the new bands and some other stuff, so I'm looking forward to a bigger and better show this fall.
