The Hanging Tree

I went to see Mocking Jay: Part 1 a few weekends ago and I just can't get the song The Hanging Tree out of my mind. The poem can be found in the book, but the way it was put to music was haunting. It managed to have that "old" feel which I think is tried quite often and missed more than hit.

Here is the audio from the movie.

Beautiful music, I agree. (At first I wondered if you were referring to the old hanging tree song I know until I saw the Hunger Games connection.)

Books 2016: A Generation Rising

Image
This was our book club book last month. It is the first book in Lund's new series. From his introduction it appears that it will be another epic one. He plans on folowing 2 families from the late 1890s through tomabout 1980, or something like that. This first book follows one family in Germany from roughly 1890 theough to the end of WWI. It was moving alomg pretty well and I was enjoying it. In the middle it slows way down to allow for the "missionary" experience. I think that part could have been integrated into the story a litle better than it was, but omce he got past that it moved along pretty well again. Overall, the book is about 300 pages and covers a lot of time. The second book is out already and appears to be much more "Lund" like in length, but I haven't read it yet and neither has any of the ladies in my book club.

My journey began when I first saw Equal Means Equal (available to rent on Amazon Prime or the purchase if you are interested - please read "comes highly recommended). The documentary is described as follow...

Books 2016: Me Before You

I read this book a couple of months back. It was a fast read and not the worst story. However, it does deal with some prety heavy topics and there is a large outcry from the disabled community about the ending. A film adaptation came out recently and it has the same ending as the book, so if you are sensitive to certain issues, please educate yourself before watching it.
