Comic Con Day 2 (Friday 9/5)

Day 2 of Comic Con was upon us and I was happy to see several posts from the event organizers about promises for better line management/entrance for Friday and Saturday.

I was running a little late (got half way to the train station and realized I didn't have my phone), so I missed the Bruce Campbell panel, but that was okay. Tom met me up at the Con after he got out of classes for the day we decided to spend a little time on the floor so Tom could look around and decide if there were things that he wanted. We ran into our niece Sam. She was dressed as a lovely little princess.

After we ran into Sam we headed towards some pizza. While we were there we ran into a new member of our ward, Lance. The three of us ate lunch and crowd watched together. We also ran into an old friend and Tom was able to check out his awesome costume.

One of the great things about crowd watching is that you get a chance to watch all the people going by and see some awesome costumes. I saw this guy dressed as Captain Hook, Once Upon a Time style. This, I believe, was the only one I saw. I'd really love to make this costume for Tom for Halloween or something because I love this character.

After eating Tom and I went to get in line for the Alan Tudyk (he plays Wash in Firefly/Serenity, among other things). He was amazing and he had some great stories. He ran the panel a little differently than most. Instead of having two lines (one on each side of the stage) where he would just switch back and forth he had three chairs up and he let three of them up at a time for more of a discussion like atmosphere. After each question/answer he would pull something out of his bag, sign it, and give it to them. It was a lot fun, but Tom had to leave part way through to get ready for work.

After Alan's panel I went to a panel about the fan-driven expansion of the Firefly 'Verse (universe). The panel topic was interesting but some of it was a little flat.

After this I wandered around for a little while waiting for my photo-op time with John Barrowman. The line was crazy long, but they have the system for photos down pretty well and as long as the photo-op starts on time they move pretty fast. Will came down a met me to jump in the photo with me. John was very nice and he took a few extra seconds for the girl in front of us to pass a message of encouragement to her. This was so nice to see because these photo-ops only work the way they do because they move people through and there really isn't time for "personal" time.

Will froze up a little which is why John and I are leaning his direction, but I think it is a great little photo

I closed out Friday by attending a panel on Shakepear's influence on Fantasy today. It was a great panel. It was filled with favorite plays, villains, "fantasy" characters (witches, fairies, etc.). I met this lovely lady in line to get in. She was dressed as Jayne Cobb (from Firefly) and she was from Northern Idaho.

It was a lovely day and I was crazy tired when I got home. I was looking forward to Saturday because Tom would be able to come with me all day.

  1. It's fun to read about your experience at Comic Con. I'm not sure when or if I'd ever have or take the opportunity to go, so it is nice to hear about what you do there! Also, I LOVE your hair. You really rock that short style!
