Tom Starts School

Tom had his first day of the semester today. This is his first semester as a full-time student. I don't know how excited he is about all of this, but I'm totally excited. Here are my reasons:

  • I know how awesome Tom is and I know that his education is important to who he'll influence and help in this life
  • Being a full-time student means that he will finish his degree sooner (this is good because it allows us to move forward with other goals and in the end it will be a lot cheaper)
  • It has been nearly a month since Tom changed jobs and as much as I love having him around, having him actively engaged in something productive during the day (while I'm trying to work from home) will be really nice.
Our only set-back so far has been the financial aid/book-keeping people at the school. Between Tom's scholarship and student loans we should have enough left over (in loan funds) to pay for books and Tom's new computer, however, the book-keeper's have messed something up. We received an amount (way too small) in a refund that isn't accounted for in our account summary and they are currently charging us the amount of the refund we should have received. Yeah, we are working our way through the process of getting it addressed, but it is really annoying, I'd just like to have his books and such paid for.

Oh, well. It will work out one way or another. In other news, I have had the drive to clean out/sort all the paperwork sitting around the house the last few days in an effort to create a nice little dedicated work space for Tom's homework and stuff. I'm so glad that I'm almost done (2 boxes, file folder, and 1 drawer left to go) and a little horrified at how much there was that I needed to get through. For the record, I started with one table top, 2 boxes, 4 drawers, and a file folder.

UPDATE 8/21/2014:

We never heard back from the school about the refund, but we did get a second check today for the remainder of the loan money. I'm so excited that we now have that all figured and can move on.
