Mom's Visit

My mom came to visit a few weeks ago. This is the first time in several years that mom has ventured our way, actually the last time she did was for our wedding. She technically came out for my cousin's wedding and the baby blessing of another cousin's first born son, but we had a few good days of hanging out between all the other family goings-on.

She came in late Saturday night and headed out early Sunday morning to drive down to Cedar City for the baby blessing. She apparently had a great time and made it back up about mid-day Monday. She was able to spend some time with her aunt, uncle, and cousin down in Orem on her way back up. We all just hung-out and talked after Tom and I got off of work.

Tuesday she went to the temple to be there when my cousin went through. I didn't get to go because I had some previous engagements that I had to keep. I believe that it was a good time and that some of them went out to dinner after.

Wednesday we had a couple friends over for dinner and then Mom's roommate from her semester at BYU came over. She was kind enough to play a little violin for us and then we all sat down with FamilySearch. This friend is now a Madsen, and we were curious to see if her husband's family and Tom's were related back in the day. We weren't able to link it for sure, but it appears that the families do come from the same county. Turns out that mom and her also have family that come from the same place even though we were unable to find a direct link there either.

Thursday we tried to keep some stuff low-key but mom and I went down to help set up the church where the reception for my cousin's wedding. Admittedly, I don't know that we helped much, but we tried.

Friday was the big wedding day. Mom and I headed up the Bountiful Temple to attend the sealing. It was a really awesome sealing. The counsel provided was amazing and I'm really glad that I was there. After the sealing everyone went outside to wait for the bride and groom to appear.

Mom and baby William (the baby from the baby blessing).

My mom wanted a picture to show how the mountains are just "right" there.

That is the bride (Carrie) and groom (Kayleb) with her Grandma and Grandpa.

The reception was Friday night and we all were able to attend (Tom too). We had a pretty good time and we ran into another cousin, Ryan. Ryan came to stay Friday night with us and it was great to catch up.

Saturday we started the morning early with some errands. Mom and I went out to pick up any last minute items we needed for Tom's 30th Birthday party that afternoon. Ryan had to leave before we got back and we were sorry that we missed him. Mom and I got all the prep work done and then headed up to my cousin, Rebecca's (other side of the family), for my soon-to-be cousin-in-law's bridal shower. It was a lovely little gathering and my mom really enjoyed seeing my cousins and aunt on that side and was very impressed with Beatrice. She thought that she was a lovely and kind person (turns out she is).

We came home and finished the last minute stuff. We had a great time and we had a lot of great friends show up. It was open house style and people came and went over the course of several hours. We had some old friends show up to see my mom and it was great to see them. I'm glad they came up from Utah County.

This is Mijin and me hanging out before the party.

Sunday we kept it simple. We went to church and then just had family time. It was our last day with mom. I took her up to the airport Monday morning so she could head home. It was really nice having her here and to share our little life with her for a short time.
