Books 2014: Insurgent

I'm back again with another book review. No, I haven't been super productive on the reading, I'm just a few books behind on reviews. As mentioned in my last book review I was headed off to read the second book in the Divergent Trilogy, and I have.

This book starts almost exactly where Divergent ended. This book follows Tris and Four as they navigate through the end of one world order and the beginning of another. There is the obvious "romance" issues, which can be summed up with "if you don't talk to each other, of course there will be problems", but there was actually enough other story to keep this aspect from being the entire book. One of the things that caught my attention here was that Tris clearly is suffering from serious emotional issues (like something akin to PTSD) through most of this book. I always find it interesting the way authors depict this type of issue because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Obviously, I have no idea what having PTSD feels like or anything but I did find this version was far more useful to the story then say the PTSD that Katniss exhibits in the 3rd Hunger Games book. Anyway, I did like this book and although there was a little "sequel" drag, it wasn't bad and it still ended on a good enough cliff-hanger that reading the third book is definitely on my to-do list.
