New Church Callings
We have made through the first month of the year. Tom has started his semester and is making chugging along. He is currently taking his first mid-term in his Calculus II class and has his first draft for his first essay (memoir) due Thursday. So far, he thinks that Calc II is easier than his Calc I class. Hopefully, the next three "sections" also fall into this "easy" to understand category. I think something just clicked while his brain was resting between semesters. So that's good.
We spent the last few months of 2013 calling-less at church. We were released from the primary sometime after summer last year and we've been kicking around since. In January I was called as the second councilor in the Relief Society. The entire Relief Society presidency has been re-organized. So, the last few weeks have been a wee bit overwhelming as we all figure our what we are doing. We have managed to make it through 3 Sundays without any catastrophic events and we are having our first mid-week activity this Saturday. I feel a little like someone just chucked me into the deep end and I don't know how to swim. I just hope that I'm doing enough as I am figuring this out to keep our dear President from drowning herself. At least, as we are trying to figure this all out we have a good start because the last presidency left things pretty well organized.
Tom, was just called as the secretary in the Elder's quorum. He hasn't had a chance to hear what his "duties" will be. It seems from a casual conversation with Tom and one of the other members of the Elder's quorum presidency that they aren't quite sure yet what his duties are either. It seems that the quorum's presidency has been incomplete for months and two of them have become first time dad's since being set apart. So, they have been working with less than a full deck. We were also talking about how the last presidency didn't leave things all tied up in a little bow for them. I think everyone is hoping that with the presidency now put together (I think) they will be able to figure out the best path and get things organized.
So, we are both starting these new callings and hoping that we can do something good for someone. That is what we have been up too and we hope all is well for everyone else.
