Pearl Harbor Day
So, ever since I was a kid my dad (old Navy guy) always reminded me when it was Pearl Harbor Day (which for those who don't have that on their annual holiday mental calendar, is today). As I grew older it became a competition to see who could remind the other first. When I was still at home this was mostly limited to who could remember and spit it out first at the breakfast table. Once I left home it became a matter of who remembered and called first. For the last three or so years I have "won". I have done so by remembering and calling dad sometime between 7-9 am on the morning of the 7th. Well, I guess my dad really wanted to win this year. I was curled up reading A Dance with Dragons last night before going to bed when my dad called. Let me interject here that a small alarm went off at this point because I couldn't imagine any good reason my nearly 77 year old dad would have for calling me at what was midnight for him. So, anyways, I answer the phone and he tells me "Happy Pearl Harbor Day". The silly guy intentionally stayed up until midnight just to win. I have no idea how I am going to beat that next year...
