Tom and I hosted a rather successful house warming last night. Unfortunately I forgot to get the camera out, but we had lots of people come by and celebrate with us. Reba and Troy came down and it was nice to finally show Troy around. Tom's family showed up, which was nice. They are really good at coming out and seeing and helping, so we really appreciate them for that. We also had Alex and Natalia, Julie Cassidy and Dayna and Shay made it out. It was great to see everybody and we were glad to have people come over. From our new ward we had our neighbors and their grandson over. They were also kind enough to lend some chairs and picnic tables. The bishop and his family made it out and so did the first counselor and his family. It is nice to be meeting people and making friends with those in the community around us.
Tom and I also taught primary for the first time today. It is our new calling and we teach the CTR class. The primary is small enough though that the CTR class includes all of the kids from 5 to 8. So there are some interesting challenges to teaching where each kid gets what they need from the lesson without boring the older kids in the class. Luckily it is a small class and we can interact with each child through out the lessons. It should prove to be a fun calling I think.
We also had to give our new member talks today in Sacrament meeting. We talked about the blessings that come from Temple service. I talked about blessings I have noticed in my life including a stronger conviction to keep the commandments, increased levels of patience from a greater eternal perspective, increased skill at meditation (as defined by David O. McKay) and the resulting increased capacity for personal revelation, eternal families and the blessings of exaltation. I think that I did alright, I always feel like my best laid plans get all scattered the minute I stand in front of the microphone. Tom talked specifically about the blessings and responsibilities of eternal marriages and eternal families. He did a good job, although if you ask him he thinks that he made a fool of himself. Just nerves. He did a good job and it was well received by the members of the congregation.
On another note our puppy hasn't been eating very well the last few days and I think that she might be feeling a little under the weather. She seems to be playing more now, so maybe she is feeling better.
As you can see it has been a very busy week and I am signing off to take a nap.
busy busy! i'm glad the housewarming was good. we'll have to stop by when we're in the area sometime. We're looking into buying a fixerupper ourselves, but nothing is set in stone yet. :) Sound like wonderful talks. Reminds me that I need to go to the temple again sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteYou should totally come by sometime. We would love to have you, besides it is about the time I meet that handsome baby of yours. It took us a few months to decide that buying a house would be a good idea and then it took several months more to decide we could actually afford it.
